How We Processed a Payment for a Crab Shipment Across Three Countries
EAST PAY is an international payment agent for foreign trade and private operations. We support international settlements, invoice payments, and complex cross-border transactions.
A client-exporter approached us needing to receive payment for a crab shipment. The cargo was being shipped from a third country to South Korea, while a Russian company was listed as the legal supplier under the contract.
The Problem
• South Korea could not make a direct payment to Russia • The country of actual shipment had no right to receive payment under the contract • Three jurisdictions were involved in the deal with no possibility of direct settlements • A legal solution was needed to receive the foreign currency and pay out the client
The client was unable to arrange the settlement through standard payment instruments and banks — the transaction was being blocked at the jurisdictional level.
Result
• The client received payment under the contract in rubles • The payment from South Korea was successfully received and processed • All transactions were conducted in compliance with jurisdictional requirements • A complete set of closing documents was prepared • Additionally, the client received a consultation on the structure of foreign trade settlements
Conclusion
When standard payment instruments do not allow a settlement to be processed, EAST PAY builds a working deal model that takes into account jurisdictional requirements, contractual structure, and currency control.
What We Did
• Acted as a payment agent and participant in the deal's settlement structure • Restructured the contractual logic with the involvement of a third party • Engaged a foreign entity in Hong Kong to receive the foreign currency payment • Arranged the client's payout in rubles through a non-resident infrastructure • Provided legal support and proper documentation
